Yes, Asif is part of the chosen few of Kerala Strikers, the celebrity cricket team promoted by Mohanlal , Lizzy Priyadarsan and Shaji Associates with Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA)."People who know me are well aware of my love of cricket, as I'm rarely seen without a bat and ball. I even take them to the film location. Cricket has always been my passion and I have played a lot in school and college," says Asif.
The team will represent the Malayalam film industry and play against other film industries, all of whom have their own teams, said Asif.
Mohanlal is reportedly the captain while team players include vice captain Indrajith, Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban as well as CPI-M politbureau member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's son Bineesh Kodiyeri. The team owners have paid Rs 90 lakh as franchisee fees and invested more than Rs 2 crore in the team.
The coach of the team will be Pankaj Chandrasenan Nair while the team manager is Idavela Babu. On October 6, the official team logo, the jersey and entire team will be unveiled at a grand gala in Kochi in the presence of Saurav Ganguly, Sohail Khan and other celebrities.
