AMMA upset with Asif Ali

Kochi: Miffed with actor Asif Ali for leaving them clueless about his absence in CCL, Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) has decided to initiate strict action against him.

True, things were not all smooth between the young actor and Amma Kerala Strikers right from the beginning. Conspicuous by his absence during all the practice sessions, no wonder Asif Ali was given the go while the final list of players was announced.

Although actor Prithviraj too was excluded from the final list, he was there in the stadium providing  moral support to the players. Moreover, Prithviraj had informed the team officials well in advance that he would not be available for the CCL matches due to his tight shooting schedule.

Apparantly, Asif never even bothered to answer the phone calls made by the team manager, team owner and  team captain. 

AMMA secretary Idavela Babu said, "Even such a busy actor like Mammootty came over to the stadium to cheer the home team. Kerala Strikers has been formed under the guidance of AMMA. We would take strict action in this regard."

Kumarasambhavam Asif Ali And Sreenivasan Again

Young actor Asif Ali and veteran actor-writer-director-producer Sreenivasan will be seen together in a film titled Kumarasambhavam Live.

Their new film is directed by Shaiju Anthikkad and will have Asif playing a youngster who is trying hard to mint some money, while Sreenivasan will play a rich man. More details are awaited.

Notably, Sreenivasan and Asif Ali were last seen together in Rajesh Pillai's blockbuster Traffic.
"Sreenivasan will play a filthy rich, elite businessman who does not know what to do with his wealth while Asif's character is a youth slogging it out to make some money," says Shaiju, who is also handling the screenplay duties.

Though The Prince and The Pauper storyline has been beaten to pulp in Mollywood, the young director claims that his movie will be different and will also have enough humour to keep the audience entertained.

Samvrutha Sunil will be playing the female lead in the movie opposite Asif. The pair also has AK Sajan's thriller Asuravithu slated for a November release.

Incidentally, Asuravithu is expected to be a turning point in Asif's career, which has seen him act in supporting roles expect for Violin that bombed in the box office.

He plays a youngster Don Bosco who arrives in Kochi to join a seminary to become a priest. However, as fate would have it, he ends up becoming an underworld don.

It now remains to be seen if Asuravithu could be Asif's Raajavinte Makan, which in 1986 had Mohanlal playing the role of a don and its box-office earnings propelled the actor to superstardom.

Asif will soon be donning the role of a cricketer, no, not for a movie, but for a real game. Yes, Asif is part of the chosen few of Kerala Strikers, the celebrity cricket team promoted by Mohanlal , Lizzy Priyadarsan and Shaji Associates with Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

"People who know me are well aware of my love of cricket, as I'm rarely seen without a bat and ball. I even take them to the film location. Cricket has always been my passion and I have played a lot in school and college," says Asif.

The team will represent the Malayalam film industry and play against other film industries, all of whom have their own teams, said Asif.

Mohanlal is reportedly the captain while team players include vice captain Indrajith, Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban as well as CPI-M politbureau member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's son Bineesh Kodiyeri. The team owners have paid Rs 90 lakh as franchisee fees and invested more than Rs 2 crore in the team.

The coach of the team will be Pankaj Chandrasenan Nair while the team manager is Idavela Babu. On October 6, the official team logo, the jersey and entire team will be unveiled at a grand gala in Kochi in the presence of Saurav Ganguly, Sohail Khan and other celebrities.

Apoorvaragam (English: Rare Melodies) is a 2010 Malayalam film written by G. S. Anand and Najeem Koya, and directed by Sibi Malayil. The film stars Nishan, Asif Ali, Vinay Forrt, Nithya Menon, Abhilash and Hima . It was released on 16 July 2010 across 42 theaters in Kerala. The film was a sleeper hit at the box office.

Apoorvaragam is the story of three youngsters Roopesh (Nishan), Nancy (Nithya) and Tommy (Asif Ali). Roopesh has always been in love with Nancy, but has never had the nerve to express it. For Nancy, love is something that is beyond words. Tommy is the perfect Cupid, who would make things happen for these two. Slowly Roopesh and Nancy fall in love. Behind their back Tommy calls Nancy's father and informs him that his daughter is dating someone from the college. Her daddy trusts her and so does not take this seriously at first. But later when he grows more suspicious, he decides to marry her off to someone he knows personally.

Nancy and Roopesh register their marriage. Tommy makes a call again to her father and informs him that his daughter has got married. Her father after verifying the correctness of this information, comes and meet Roopesh. He tells Roopesh that he is ready to give any amount to him to withdraw from the relation. Roopesh tells him that he is not in love with Nancy and is only doing this for money. Roopesh demands Rs. 1 crore to back out from the relation and Nancy's father gives it to save the child.

Roopesh, Tommy and their third companion Narayanan is later seen trying to do the same with another rich man's daughter. While the trap was being set, Roopesh gets in touch with Nancy again and tells her the truth. He steals their ransom money from their hideout and gives it back to her dad in the hope to reunite with Nancy. But Nancy revels that she was only pretending to be in love with him because she wanted the money back and also that she wanted to break his heart in return. She gets engaged to the guy chosen by her father in front of Roopesh.

Tommy and Narayanan follows them back to this place and abducts Roopesh and Nancy. In the fight that follows Roopesh grabs the gun and shoots both Tommy and Narayanan. He then calls Nancy's father to come and pick her up. When she was about to leave, Roopesh bids her adieu and shoots himself.Nancy cries out loud suggesting that she was still in love with Roopesh

asuravithu first Look

In the 1960s, A Vincent made a memorable Malayalam film called Asuravithu based on the Jnanpith award winner M T Vasudevan Nair's novel of the same name. The film had Prem Nazir and Sarada in the main roles.

In 2011, another film titled Asuravithu is being made in Malayalam but it has no connection with the original Asuravithu.

Young hero Asif Ali, who is riding high after the success of Salt N' Pepper and Violin, is paired opposite Samvritha Sunil in writer-director A K Sajan's Asuravithu.

Asif plays a character called Don Bosco. He is a soft- spoken youth, living in a seminary and all set to become a priest. Samvritha Sunil is Marty, a bold chatterbox who runs a boat service. She is also an expert in drawing sketches of suspects from the accounts of eyewitnesses, for the cops.

"Don Bosco comes across a certain event and that changes his life forever," says Sajan, who has earlier directed films like Stop Violence and Lanka. He is also the scenarist of films like Butterflies, Kashmeeram, Janathipathyam, Chinthamani Kolacase, Red Chillies and Drona 2010.

Asif Ali says that his character in Asuravithu has "various shades to it, which of course I can't reveal now. For an actor, that is a challenge."

"I have been offered bubbly characters especially after Manikya Kallu in which I played such a lively girl. Marty is one character that I really look forward to portraying," says Samvritha Sunil.

Asuravithu is being produced by Leela Creations. The camera is by Vishnu Narayan and the music directors are Alphonse Joseph and Rajesh Mohan.
